Most SMS’s Have Lost Sight of the Seafarers

Mike Bradshaw, Senior Manager HSEQ at Bahri Ship Management, explains how Safety Management Systems (SMS) in most shipping companies today have become too big, too complex and lost sight of the end user the seafarer.

Lovoy trained our team that write the procedures. Those team members are now writing better procedures and with pace. For me this is a really rewarding process. As an ex seafarer myself I know our colleagues on the vessels are going to like what we are doing. I have seen safety management systems  grow and become more complex and now I am looking forward to them becoming simpler more concise and easy to use.
